This was an amazing color! How I arrive at this is by some chance. It was on a colder day that I had stained this set (Lung-Ta) and the stain reacted really well. There is actually two colors used, a base of weathered bronze then padre brown, have not used this combination before.
"Mantra" The block I use on these sets are for printing prayer books.
If you have ever watched the movie "Seven years in Tibet" the young Dali Lama is using one of these. Could it have been this block that printed a book the Dali Lama had used?
These are from the Lung-Ta block (Windhorse). This block was carved in Tibet 250 years ago. If you look closely you can see the Windhorse, carrying the 3 jewels of the Buddha. The Buddha, Buddha teachings and Buddhist community. This was used to print prayer flags. I shall post various colors of each.
This set was created by using the Lotus block and recycled glass.
These are some of the antique wooden blocks I use on my spiritual art. I have collected these since 1976. Some from Nepal some from India.
It is amazing that there is no wear on them over the past 10 years of my use.

These are of the original style art I started out with 10 years ago. This particular set of 4 has a very unique color of reds and orange. It is by far one of the more difficult colors to achieve. I use dyes and stain which neither is opaque. You have very deep rich colors with alot of depth.
I had all these concrete core samples and was
wondering what I could use them for.
Took me forever to come up with the idea
that they may be used as a table base.
This table is in an art gallery in Palo Alto, Ca.
This wall finish is in a home in Rancho Mirage,Ca I apply the same techniques as I use in my art. The mix of materials is adjusted for working on a vertical angle. This particular one is just pigment no stain is used. The white or lighter grays are from the use of a little water while troweling.

"Untitled" 36"x48"

I should name this 4:30 AM!!!!!! That is when I began the coloring process and finally finished it at 9:30 PM. rarely do I have to work some many colors into my work. I wanted 4 very distinct bands of color that played off of each other. I had to start out very light then added as I went along. I love the separation that you see and the way the color mingles in and out of each other. The zinc used as the serpentine border gives a sensual feel that preoccupies the senses.

"Untitled" 36"x60"

I had used old grape stakes as part of the framing on this untitled piece. I wanted to work in green hues only and kept layering the colors. I needed to stop myself knowing the rich colors really come out during the sealing process. I only have a rough concept of what I want to create, the work it self begins to reveal itself as if it has a life of it's own or a story it wants to tell.

These represent the spiritual side of the art I create. They are made on a piece of recycled redwood and measure 6"x24". This particular set is imprinted using a old wooden block that was used for printing Tibetan prayer books. The mantra
"Om mani padma om " is the inscription.
Translated " The jewel in the heart of the Lotus.
The willow comes from the banks of the Truckee river, and I create them in many colors.

"Time Change"

"Time Change" is the second piece of its kind, It measures 60"x60" and it's base is 2"rigid foam insulation that I collected from a home being remodeled. Some of implements used for the design were found in the parking lot of the Cal Neva casino in North Shore lake Tahoe when they to were in the midst of a remodel.
This was a banner day for collecting recycled material. This is the basis of my art which I started 10 years ago. I was green before it was fashionable. It just seemed right to me, all this was going to end up in a landfill somewhere. Now I hope it will adorn someones home once I have turned it into a piece of art. This is Redwood some grand tree was cut down used a decking material and laid on the street for the garbage collector. Such a majestic tree deserves a second chance.
When in Mammoth Lakes California visit the Mono council for the Arts gallery. Gaye and Angela are there Thursday thru Sunday and would be happy to show your all the wonderful art produced by local artists, "and one from Sacramento"
